I frequently receive requests to connect on LinkedIn with people I don’t know and who likely have agendas that I have no interest in… Here is an introduction meme that has floated around the Internet for a few years that is worth repeating and useful guidance if you are trying to connect with someone you don’t necessarily know…In the movie The Princess Bride, Inigo Montoya introduces himself by saying "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." This introduction is often used as an example of how to make a strong impression.The structure of Inigo's introduction is simple:"Hello" - Say hello simply."My name is Íñigo Montoya" - Identify yourself."You killed my father" - Indicates a relevant relationship."Prepare to die" - Set expectations.The advice given by Inigo Montoya is to be polite, share your name, explain why you are speaking and what you intend to do for the person. You can use this advice to introduce yourself in networking events, when meeting new people, when starting a conversation, or here on LinkedIn!
