Pokémon Horizons Episode: “Welcome to Paldea!

It’s hard to imagine a more cheerful home than Liko’s sunny yellow house in Cabo Poco. In Pokémon Horizons, it takes a while before we get to see it, but in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, you start your adventure from your cozy home in Cabo Poco. Despite the disparity in the timing, Liko’s home in Pokémon Horizons is a dead ringer for the player’s home in the video games, immediately eliciting a smile of recognition.

Even though Liko is a student at Indigo Academy, which is based in Kanto, Pokémon Horizons viewers still get a glimpse of Paldea’s Naranja Academy when Liko gives Friede and Roy a tour of Mesagoza on their way to her home. The school is an imposing structure that Roy finds impressive. In Pokémon Scarlet, the player actually attends Naranja Academy, acquiring vital knowledge about Pokémon and the Paldea region over the course of their studies.

Pokémon Horizons Episode: “Nemona and Brassius and…

Liko and Roy pay a visit to Artazon’s Gym Leader, Brassius, hoping for some intel on the black Rayquaza they’re pursuing. Unfortunately, Brassius is experiencing an artistic slump, so Champion-ranked Trainer Nemona recommends gathering Sunflora at the town’s Sunflora Lawn to cheer him up. It’s a direct parallel to the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Test in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet that requires the player to collect 10 Sunflora and return them. Whatever the impetus for chasing Sunflora, whether to cheer up Brassius or earn a battle with him, it’s an undeniably delightful challenge.

Pokémon Horizons Episode: “An Unexpected Picnic!

Having a picnic with your Pokémon is quite possibly the most Paldean pastime imaginable. So when the crew of the Brave Olivine takes a break to enjoy a picnic on the cliffs overlooking Levincia, it’s utterly magical. In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, most players will be visiting Levincia to challenge Gym Leader Iono, but a picnic on the city’s outskirts isn’t a bad idea to get those Pokémon in fighting shape.

Pokémon Horizons Episode: “Fly! Wattrel!

When Roy meets a wild Wattrel just outside Levincia, he realizes the Pokémon is struggling to fly. Roy and his partner Fuecoco decide to help Wattrel, which results in the Storm Petrel Pokémon successfully flying to the top of a nearby watchtower. It’s a pivotal moment because it proves that Roy has a passion for helping Pokémon, and it leads to him catching Wattrel. In the video games, players can visit the 13 watchtowers to find useful items and encounter Gimmighoul. It can be a trek finding and climbing the watchtowers, but they’re well worth the effort—just like helping Wattrel learn to fly was well worth Roy’s time.

Pokémon Horizons Episode: “Fly! Wattrel!

The crew of the Brave Olivine just can’t seem to get enough of Levincia, which makes sense because it’s a stunning coastal city with loads of shopping opportunities. When Liko and Murdock decide to treat themselves and their Pokémon to ice cream during a shopping expedition in Levincia, they encounter an ice cream cart that appears identical to the Sugar-N-Ice carts in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Unfortunately, we never find out what flavors Murdock, Liko, Rockruff, and Sprigatito ordered, but the Sugar-N-Ice stalls in the games sell mint chocolate ice cream, fizzy ice cream, strawberry ice cream, mango ice cream, Nacli salt ice cream, and teriyaki ice cream, so they likely had plenty of delicious choices.

Pokémon Horizons Episode: “Someone We Can’t See! Whosawhatsit?

Iono is a larger-than-life figure, so when the Levincia Gym Leader teams up with Nidothing to help find Liko, it’s an exciting moment for both their fans. Of course, it’s also an opportunity to check out the highly charged atmosphere of the Levincia Gym. In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, players will find the Levincia Gym and Iono in Area Two of the East Province. In Pokémon Horizons, Liko and her friends always have to be ready to battle the Explorers, but in the video games, the player has to prep for a battle with Iono, and it’s tough to say who is more intimidating.
