We use different colors to get the cookies to have that marbled look and instead of going for random colors, you will be using red and green which to me screams holidays!

To make this Christmas sugar cookie recipe you will need the following ingredients:

  • butter- Softened butter is what you will need for this recipe.
  • Granulated sugar– The white sugar makes the cookies soft and chewy.
  • Brown sugar– Brown sugar is the secret ingredient to make these sugar cookies extra soft. It also gives them a depth of flavor.
  • Egg white- The egg white is our binding agent.
  • Vanilla- Can’t have a vanilla sugar cookie without the vanilla. You can also add a little extra almond extract for a super fetive cookie.
  • Flour- All-purpose flour works great for this recipe.
  • Baking soda- baking soda will give these cookies a bit of height.
  • Salt– The salt will help balance out the sweetness of these cookies.
  • Red and Green food coloring– For the red, we use “red-red” and for the green, we use “moss green” by Wilton.

Gel food coloring is the best option when it comes to coloring your cookie dough because it won’t affect the texture as much as liquid food coloring would.

I used about ⅛ teaspoon of each color but you can play around and see which one works best for you.

How to make Christmas marbled soft sugar cookies

  1. Cream the butter and sugars together in a large bowl.
  2. Mix in the vanilla extract and the egg white.
  3. Add in the Flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix until soft dough forms and the flour mixture disappears.
  4. Divide the sugar cookie dough into 3 equally sized balls and place in separate small bowls.
  5. Dye one red, and one green, and leave the third one as is.
  6. Scoop a teaspoon of cookie dough from each bowl and gently press the dough pieces together to create a random pattern.
  7. Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake.
  8. Let the cookies cool down for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool down fully.

This recipe can be made with a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, with an electric mixer (hand mixer), or even by hand.

  • 1 stick butter softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 &½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • cup granulated sugar for rolling the cookies
  • teaspoon red red food coloring
  • teaspoon green moss food coloring

Instructions

  • First, start by preheating your oven to 350F, then line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat then set aside.

  • In a stand mixer, start by creaming the butter with the granulated sugar and the brown sugar using a paddle attachment until the mixture is light and creamy .Add in the egg white and the vanilla and mix again for 30 seconds or until fully incorporated.

  • Add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and mix just until the flour disappears. Divide the cookie dough into three equally sized balls and place each one is a separate bowl. Dye one red, one green, and leave the third one as is.

  • Scoop out one teaspoon of cookie dough from each bowl, You now have two options, you can either put those three balls together and roll them gently to get a simple design or you can split each 1 teaspoon of cookie dough into two and randomly place them on each other before rolling them gently to create a more elaborate design. After rolling all the cookies, bake them at 350F for 7 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the cookie rack for 5 minute before transferring to a cooling rack.
